Question Which budget power supply i should buy? Question PC Malfunctioning after RAM and PSU change Question Is this cable from the power supply damaged? Is there a way to trigger the Power Supply fan to run so I can determine it's functioning after start up? Since the fan DOES run on start up, should I assume it's working and the PC is not the cause? I found an Asus monitor program and for some reason it shows a Power Fan as running and chassis fans as not running though it should be the reverse.

It is a very cool day and after a half hour of doing some Rendering which sometimes triggers it, I still couldn't get the fan to run. I did some fairly intensive computing to see if I could get the fan to start, thinking the stoppage might just be a thermostat control which would keep it from running until a certain temperature was reached. I re-checked again later by restarting and the same thing. In a very short time (seconds later) the cooling fan on the power supply (Ultra 650 ATX) stopped running. It started up normally and all fans seemed to be working.

This morning I opened the case to take a look when I turned it on. My nose couldn't find anything and the PC seemed to be working fine. Thought it might be a piece of electronics or something from my PC. Last night I smelled something acrid in my office.
